This week, I'm going to have my students choose an important figure in black history to research and write a biography about.
When I was working on my master's degree in literacy, a professor I admire had some interesting suggestions for helping students avoid plagiarism when they're doing research. I will be using one of her suggestions in class.
She recommended having students fill out an ABC graphic organizer as they research. Students try to find information for each letter of the alphabet for their topic. After gathering all of their information, they synthesize it into a writing piece using their own words. Here is the organizer I'm using. The ABC side is the front.
